In this interview, the RECETOX environmental epidemiologist, Ondřej Mikeš, explains what air pollution research in Brno (Czech Republic) entails, how researchers communicate measurement results to politicians and the public, and why scientists are now trying to create a digital model of the entire city.

As part of the new DTRIP4H project, RECETOX is developing a digital twin of Brno—a virtual model designed to support more effective policymaking for air quality improvement. This initiative aligns with RECETOX’s broader goal of transforming Brno into a Living Lab for environmental research. The project requires extensive input data and leverages RECETOX’s expertise and data management, in collaboration with partner companies skilled in machine learning, virtual reality, and other advanced technologies, to build a high-quality, dynamic urban model.
